Satellite Tracking section
This research section is engaged in the technical development of satellite telemetry, both in the national and international context. Satellite tracking provides important information on movement and distribution and therefore the work of this section is relevant for the work conducted at the genetic ecology section on population structure. Research on satellite-based data logging conducted by this section can provide valuable information on dive time to assist sighting survey correction factors and this information is relevant for the work conducted at both abundance estimation and marine ecosystem sections. At the international context members of this section participate in the Japan-North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission (NAMMCO) project to develop a small-size and long-time duration satellite tag (Mintag project).
